The National Spirit of Nature

In 2001, the National Spirit of Nature Award was established by the Wood in Culture Association. The award honours Finnish visionaries and professionals who have both gained international fame in the field of music and made their mark in the regional Finland. It would not be possible to give out an award of 12000 Euros without the support from Metsämiesten Säätiö Foundation.

In order to be a true cosmopolitan, it is important to be proud of one’s roots. Generally speaking, nurturing an active living environment and cultural services for the people is the duty of active citizens now and in the future. The development of regional cultural events can help to prevent or at least narrow the spiritual and material gap that divides the people living in the growing capital area and the people who live in the country side. The organiser hopes that the award will make a difference and improve the status and appreciation that culture has in the regional Finland.

Everyone is invited to send their nominations for the Award to the Association. A preliminary jury will select 3 to 5 candidates for the final round and the selection of the winner is made by a predetermined person each year. The Award is given out every second year.
